Sheriff Brian Schenck says his office is investigating a fatal snowmobile accident that happened around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Fairhaven.
He says investigation shows that 54-year-old Rodney Turner, of Red Creek was operating a snowmobile on a frozen section of Little Sodus Bay when the ice gave way and his vehicle entered the water.
People on shore became concerned after Tunrer did not arrive on the other side of the bay and went onto the ice to investigate.

Turner was transported to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Schenck says the investigation remains active. Anyone with information can contact Detective Lt. Cornelius at (315) 253-6562.
Assisting with the investigation were the Cayuga County 911 Center, the New York State Police, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Fairhaven Fire and Ambulance, Red Creek Fire Department, and the Town of Oswego Fire Department.
