Urgent care facilities offer faster service for minor injuries & illnesses
A brand new Urgent Care center is coming to a convenient location in the heart of Canandaigua.
Thompson Health announced on Facebook that a new UR Medicine Urgent Care would open along 5&20 in the city, near the intersection with South Main Street.
They shared photos of the new location on Facebook. It will be located in what many refer to as the ‘Old Wegmans’ property.
WellNow Urgent Care is also planning a Canandaigua location. However, it’s unclear at this point where that facility will be located.
“Awesome and conveniently located,” one commenter said about the UR Urgent Care development. Some were surprised that it wasn’t built closer to Finger Lakes Community College.
Urgent care facilities have been popping up throughout the region, with Finger Lakes Health, UR Medicine, Rochester Regional Health, and WellNow all opening new locations. Others are planned in the coming months and years as health care trends change.
Part of the rise of urgent care facilities has been connected to a lack of primary care physicians, or those physicians being overloaded with patients. As the volume of physicians decreases, the number of patients seeking out quick treatment at these facilities is rising.
Urgent care facilities provide quick, quality care for non-life threatening injuries and illnesses. Coughs, colds, the flu, sprains, strains, and other types of services are provided in a walk-in environment. Some urgent care facilities, like WellNow, even provide online check-in, and real-time wait time updates for patients looking for the quickest care.
UR Medicine did not say when the new Canandaigua location would be open.
