Public’s assistance sought after SUV leaves scene of crash along Rt. 96

Sheriff Kevin Henderson says his office is asking for the public’s assistance after a personal injury crash on State Route 96 in Phelps.

The crash happened between County Road 6 and Hayes Road along Route 96 around 11:24 a.m. on Monday.

Sheriff Henderson says Rachel Klein, 31, of Manchester was traveling east on Route 96 when she lost control of her vehicle due to the actions of another vehicle.

The second vehicle left the scene, according to the Sheriff’s update. Klein was transported to Geneva General Hospital by ambulance and treated there.

Deputies say the vehicle that left the scene was possible a dark colored SUV. They further noted in a press release that it could be a Jeep Wranger.

Two witnesses at the scene spoke to law enforcement, but Sheriff Henderson is asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation.

Phelps Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, and Oaks Corners Fire Department all responded to the scene.
