Community rallies around couple who lost everything in devastating Wayne County fire

Couple overwhelmed by generosity of community after losing everything in fire

– By Josh Durso

Firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to neighboring homes – but a couple was devastated by that fire, as their own home burned to the ground the day after Christmas.

The Lake Road home was a total loss, and little remained as firefighters worked at the scene the next day. Multiple departments were called to the scene, as reported on Thursday, but the community has since rallied, according to Rita Cotraccia Polsinelli, who called the place on Lake Road home.

Both She and her husband Rudy, lost everything, but they escaped with their well-being, and dog.

As of Sunday, Rita described the outpouring of support from the community as ‘overwhelming’. A GoFundMe had already raised more than $6,625, and continued to grow. The couple will have a long road to rebuilding their lives, but are feeling confident that with the kind words of support, physical and monetary donations, as well as the unity of the community that they will move forward successfully.

“I wanted to tell everyone that we are so amazed and thankful and OVERWHELMED with not only the well wishes, support and gifts and visitors, but that GoFundMe,” Rita wrote in an update on Facebook. “It has brought tears to our eyes especially as we read the comments that some left.”
