Police say that a 37-year-old Penn Yan man was arrested on two charges after failing to register, per mandated conditions, as a sex offender.
Police say Neil Hall, 37, of Penn Yan was arrested after an investigation into his use of Facebook Messenger, which violated the terms and conditions of his sex offender status.
It’s alleged that Hall showed up to a meeting with his parole officer and was using Facebook Messenger on his phone. A subsequent investigation revealed that Hall was using a Facebook account and email account that he did not register with authorities, which is required as part of his registration as a sex offender.
Police say Hall is a Level 2 violent offender, and was subsequently charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender. Both of those charges are felonies, according to police.
The charges will be answered in Penn Yan Village Court.
