A new year is closing in and there is still time to make some decisions and set some goals for 2020. A lot of us want to become better in the next year and part of that is becoming healthier. So, since you still have enough time for some major changes and new beginnings, you should probably work on your fitness. Today, that’s really possible to achieve, but you probably just need a small push and a bit more motivation and organization.
Set Your Fitness Goal
In order to know how to approach your New Years’ fitness resolution, you need to set some goals. Of course, you should be realistic about this, because some fitness goals are not that easy to achieve, such as losing 50 pounds by spring. If your goal is to lose some weight, keep the number realistic and doable and give yourself enough time to realize it. For example, your goal can be losing one or two pounds a week. Also, your goal might be to gain some muscles or become leaner. In that case, you should too be objective and realistic and take things easy. Especially if you want to avoid any injuries and if you want to stay healthy and strong.
Just make sure to make the goals achievable and measurable so you can keep track of them. You can have a journal and keep track of the weights you can lift, measurements of your waist, gained or lost weight and so on. Once you’ve set your goals, all that is left to do is create an action plan and stick to it!
Buy Some Gear for Motivation
Everyone will need a dose of motivation that will keep them on the right track of realizing their plans and goals. When it comes to fitness, it’s usually due to the great gear you’ve spent money on and you don’t want it to go to waste. However, don’t splurge on expensive stuff, especially if you’re still struggling to start exercising regularly. Start by finding fitness equipment that you’re going to like, like this one here, and be happy to wear to the gym or at home while exercising. Then, as you make progress, you can add some other pieces, such as smaller weights, kettlebells, resistance bands etc. if you want to use them at home. Or switch to other accessories that you’re going to need at the gym. Comfy gear and equipment that you’re eager to wear and use will be your motivation and it will keep you occupied.
Exercise More Frequently
The key to staying fit in the new year is exercising regularly and frequently. This is not only in order to improve your health and performance, but it will help you with achieving your set goals. You will have to rely on scheduling and habit formation. You can schedule your workout early in the morning or later in the evening, and sometimes you’ll want to do exercises twice a day in order to teach your body and mind that you need to do this. Also, don’t skip exercising during the weekends, just in case you don’t lose that habit and get lazy.
Incorporate Cardio
Most people avoid cardio because it’s just too hard and intense sometimes. However, if you want to work on your fitness and burn some calories, you will have to incorporate it into your workout routine. If you’re going to the gym, make sure you do at least 10 minutes of cardio on the machines before you start lifting weights or doing anything else. Besides burning you some calories, this will make a great warm-up routine. You can do cardio at home too, by incorporating some jumping jacks, mount climbers and other similar exercises that will get your heart beating faster.
It is often tough to make a decision to start exercising and stick to it, but New Year’s resolution seems like a perfect opportunity. However, make sure to have some goals, make a plan and don’t get lazy. With a bit of effort and devotion, you will make your fitness wishes come true.
