Police say a Rochester man is in custody after attempting to meet with what he thought was a child for sex at a Canandaigua park.
The Canandaigua Police Department reports the arrest of William E. Buzzell, 35, of Rochester, who was charged with second-degree attempted criminal sex act.
It’s alleged that Buzzell used social media to arrange a meeting with a 14-year-old child at a city park for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with the alleged child.
However, the department reports that no children were in fact at risk. Buzzell was communicating with an undercover officer with the Canandaigua Police Department.
Detectives took Buzzell into custody when he arrived at the park.
Police say that the arrest of Buzzell is part of an ongoing effort to identify individual who use social media to entice minors into engaging in sexual conduct.
Buzzell was held pending arraignment; and additional charges are pending.
