Deputies: Newark man ejected from tractor, airlifted from scene of violent crash in Phelps

On Friday at approximately 2:20 p.m. first responders were called to the scene of a personal injury crash along State Route 88 in the Town of Phelps.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded along with Phelps ambulance and fire personnel to the scene. The crash reportedly involved a dump truck and farm tractor, which was confirmed upon arrival.

Deputies say Joseph Tyler, 41, of Newark was operating the tractor southbound on Route 88 and attempted to turn east onto Gardner Road.

Deputies say that Mark Johncox, 50, of Newark was operating a Riccelli owned dump truck and attempted to pass the tractor.

The pass attempt occurred when the tractor began the left turn, which led them to collide.

Deputies say that Tyler was ejected from the tractor and sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation, according to deputies.
