Keuka Lake is a large and unusually shaped member of the Finger Lakes family. Sometimes called “The Crooked Lake,” Keuka Lake branches into two separate lakes on the north end. The lake is “anchored” by its two largest communities, Penn Yan on the north and Hammondsport on the south. Several small villages and hamlets dot both sides of the lake’s landscape.
This is the heart of the wine-growing region so you are never far from a winery here! Mr. Cheapskate loves to drive around this lake and offers up a list of 10 places to put in your day-book when making an “around the lake” trip this summer. The stops include a museum to one of the area’s most famous “native sons,” a boat cruise, a walk around a historic town, seeing an oddity that is in the Guinness Book of World Records, a tasty flight of Finger Lakes wine paired with some New York State cheeses and a visit to two of the most beautiful chapels you will find in Upstate New York. And he did it all for under $65.
