NY set to ban employers from asking about salary history

Companies may soon be prohibited from asking about your salary history.

It’s a common question on job applications: how much money do you make? But seeking salary information could soon be eliminated from those forms.

Just before ending their session in Albany, both the House and Senate passed a bill that will prohibit employers from asking applicants about their current or previous salaries.

Supporters say it will help fight against wage discrimination, arguing employers use that information to justify lower pay rates or raises.
