Students in the City School District have opportunities to take part in robotics teams in grades four and five and at the high school level, but nothing in between.
Geneva Robotics is answering that challenge, but with some components that set it apart from a school program.
The G-Bots FIRST LEGO team is open to ages 9 to 13 in the city and town, whether the student is in the city district, a parochial school or home-schooled.
It’s also selective, meaning kids don’t automatically earn one of the 30 spots, said Sandra Chu, one of the Geneva Robotics leaders.
The team has yet to be chosen but is already getting some strong financial support from the community, including the Wyckoff Family Foundation, which donated $8,000 in much-needed seed money.
