ShoppingTown Mall misses deadline to pay $9.7 million in back taxes

Moonbeam LLC, the owners of ShoppingTown Mall in Dewitt, have missed the deadline to pay $9.7 million in back taxes to Onondaga County, according to Justin Sayles, spokesperson for Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon.

After getting a one-month extension in May to pay back the millions owed in back taxes to the county, Moonbeam has missed its 4 p.m. June 24th deadline.

“We deserve better than a tax delinquent, vacant mall and my administration is committed to seeing this property revitalized and redeveloped,” McMahon said in a previous statement.

Missing the payment means that the mall now goes into the process of foreclosure and belongs to Onondaga County.

Tony Malveda, who announced his candidacy for Onondaga County Executive Monday afternoon, addressed his concerns on what the county will do with the mall.
