Turbide will lead enrollment at Wells College

Wells College has named Gerard Turbide, an accomplished enrollment leader, as its new vice president for enrollment services. Turbide—who comes to Wells with a deep expertise in enrollment management, recruitment marketing and institutional strategic planning—will begin his position on July 1, 2019. He succeeds Kishan Zuber, the current vice president for enrollment services, who will depart Wells for a position at Wilkes University on June 25.

“Gerard Turbide is a proven leader and strategic thinker who is extraordinarily skilled at leveraging institutional research findings and predictive analysis to inform long-term planning and decision making,” said Jonathan Gibralter, president of Wells College. “I know he will be an excellent addition to our senior leadership team,” added President Gibralter.

Turbide comes to Wells having served in a similar senior-level capacity at Ithaca College (IC), where he began his enrollment management career in 1993 as assistant director of admission. He was named director of admission at IC in May 2006 and vice president of enrollment management in 2015. During his tenure as VP, Turbide led strategies that achieved overall enrollment outcomes within established goals while increasing the racial and ethnic diversity and academic profile of incoming classes. Before his time at Ithaca College, he worked in student life at Bucknell University and St. Lawrence University.

At Ithaca College, he collaborated extensively with faculty, students, alumni, and staff to promote a student-centered and data-informed campus culture essential to enrollment success. He developed a leading-edge Division of Enrollment Management, overseeing admission, student financial services, career services, and analytics and institutional research. He has served on numerous campus-wide committees, including ones related to diversity and inclusion, student success, strategic planning, risk management, web and digital strategy, marketing and communications, and institutional reaccreditation.

“I am honored to join the vibrant, diverse, student-centered community that is Wells College,” said Turbide. “Now more than ever, we need global citizens who are brave, creative and committed to making the world a better place. Wells prepares students to embrace that challenge. I look forward to playing a role in connecting future students to this extraordinary educational experience.”

Turbide earned a B.A. in mathematics, magna cum laude, from SUNY Potsdam and a M.Ed. in counseling and human development from St. Lawrence University. He has been a leader in regional and national professional associations, having served as vice president for finance of the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) and as college delegate to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
