Millions will be spent in the village of Newark to revamp a property that was once a destination within the Finger Lakes region.
And now for different reasons – the property will again become a destination site.
This time it will mean 60 to 80 jobs, more than $7 million of investment into the former Jackson and Perkins site, which later became Newark Florist, and perhaps most-importantly – another landmark opportunity for Newark.
“This is a huge win for Newark and out region,” Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor said during a press conference on Tuesday held at the site.
Honest Pharma, a Colorado-based CBD hemp producer will be moving into the East Maple site.
A state of the art laboratory will be included at the site, as well, according to developers. Mayor Taylor says that partnerships will be utilized between Finger Lakes Community College to develop a workforce for the facility; and Cornell for research.
“We are thrilled to continue to have individuals and businesses looking to invest in our community. We feel that we are building something really special in the Village of Newark,” Mayor Taylor said after the announcement. “With every investment, both public and private, we are creating a community where people want to live and raise a family. A place where they want to work and where others want to invest.”
He said that the whole thing came together quickly for village officials.
“Anytime you can add jobs is a win,” Taylor added. “Today over 6,800 people work in the village everyday. The addition of these new, good paying jobs will push us closer to breaking 7,000 working in our community.”
He called it an extraordinary accomplishment for a community of roughly 9,000 residents.
“This is a great opportunity for the community; and a big win for the Village of Newark,” Taylor added during his remarks.

‘A HUGE WIN FOR US’: Mayor says major announcement coming Tuesday in Newark

Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor says residents and community members should be ready for a ‘big announcement’ on Tuesday.
Taylor announced that a press conference will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. on East Maple Street.
“This is a huge win for us,” Taylor told FingerLakes1.com over the weekend.
The mayor did not elaborate on details of the announcement.
