Three Cayuga Community College staff and faculty members receive Chancellor’s Award for Excellence

Three staff and faculty members at Cayuga Community College were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the college this spring when they received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.

The Chancellor’s Award honors faculty and staff for their dedication and achievement in categories such as Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional and Classified Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, and Teaching. The annual award was instituted in 1972 by the State University of New York.

“Congratulations to Melissa, Ralph and Adam for earning the 2019 Chancellor’s Award. All three of our recipients have impressive records of professional achievements, and are dedicated to helping students succeed during their time at Cayuga and preparing them for their future careers,” said Cayuga President Dr. Brian Durant. “These awards are well-deserved and recognize the exceptional contributions each recipient has made at Cayuga.”

Excellence in Teaching

Melissa Johnson — Associate Professor of Art

Professor Johnson joined Cayuga’s faculty in 2009 as an adjunct instructor, became a full-time faculty member in 2010, and became an Associate Professor of Art, Studio Art & Design in 2018. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Rural Sociology from Cornell University. In her time at Cayuga, Professor Johnson has taught courses ranging from drawing and painting to two-dimensional and three-dimensional design to printmaking and art history. She has devoted extensive time to organizing opportunities for students to explore their artistic talents, whether through the biannual Cayuga Student Art Exhibit, field and study trips, or events in the community. She has also earned several awards, including the Senate Faculty Excellence Award in 2016.


Excellence in Classified Service

Ralph Stacy Jr. — Campus Police Lieutenant

A Cayuga alum, Lieutenant Stacy is a 15-year member of the Cayuga Office of Public Safety and is involved in several countywide initiatives. During his time at Cayuga, Lieutenant Stacy earned a Master of Science Degree in Administration of Justice and Security from University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community and Human Services from SUNY Empire State College. He implemented and supervises the Cayuga Student Safety Patrol, which helps with property concerns and security inspections. He is a first-line supervisor to patrol staff and maintains reports and log books essential for disseminating information to the campus or as part of investigations. He is leading the implementation of a new reporting system, e-Justice inquiry system, and is assisting with TRACS reporting system for tickets and accident reports. Lieutenant Stacy is the designated campus police representative on the E-911 Public Review and Protocol Committee.


Excellence in Professional Service

Adam Williams — Webmaster

A Cayuga staff member since 2008, Adam develops and maintains the College website, the development of mobile apps and ensures Cayuga complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines under the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 2018, Adam developed an online registration portal that facilitated course registrations for off-campus students that improved timeliness and data accuracy. He is solely responsible for managing updates to the college’s website, including updating program, registration and admissions information. In addition to posting all changes to the College website, Adam also manages Cayuga’s presence on social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. He monitors these and other internet applications, exploring these to enhance Cayuga’s marketing and enrollment opportunities.
