Artists wanted for Seneca Falls bridge mural project

With Town Board approval, the Rev. Leah Ntuala is now looking for local artists who would like to paint public murals on the Rumsey Street Bridge along the Ludovico Sculpture Trail.

Starting Wednesday and through May 28, she will accept submissions from artists for ideas. Actual painting of approved murals will begin the first week of June.

“Currently, these bridge abutments are littered with random drawings, words and images. We all have experienced the power of art in a public square. People journey to our community from all over the world to look at our history, nature and art,” Ntuala said.

“I would like the art to be built around history or ‘herstory’ of our community and our role in industry. Seneca Falls, the birthplace of women’s rights, is about to celebrate one hundred years of women’s right to vote. I invite artists to create art themed on the ideas of who we were, who we are and who we strive to become,” Ntuala said.

Up to nine volunteer artists are being solicited.
