Victor man charged with menacing a police officer in Farmington

Deputies say a Victor man was arrested for menacing a police officer following an incident at the Speedway Gas Station along Route 332 in Farmington on Thursday.

Richard E. Byers, 31, of Victor was arrested after flipping off officers who were called to the gas station for a ‘suspicious’ or ‘disoriented’ person.

When deputies attempted to make contact with him he exited his vehicle with a knife in hand. Deputies say Byers then took steps toward the officers on-scene with the knife still in hand.

He was ordered repeatedly to drop the knife. After several requests he dropped the knife and was taken into custody without further incident.

Byers was charged with menacing a police officer, which is a felony.
