Residents in the villages of Phelps and Clifton Springs have another choice for high-speed broadband, and it comes from a company that’s been in town for 99 years.
Ontario Trumansburg Telephone Companies President and CEO Paul Griswold said Monday the installation of high-speed fiber cable in the two villages is complete, with plans to offer services outside the village in the mix as well.
The system, which company crews and contractors began installing last July, is now live.
“We’ve got hundreds of people signing up already,” Griswold said.
While OTTC is spreading the word of the new high-speed broadband fiber network to its existing phone customers, Griswold said the service is largely aimed at tech-heavy households.
“We’re not marketing to us,” he said of his age range. “We’re marketing for the next generation.”
That, said Griswold, is the family with multiple devices and that games and streams, which demands high internet speeds beyond your basic web pages.
