The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 26-year-old Newark resident was arrested on various charges following a welfare fraud investigation run in conjunction with the Department of Social Services.
Robert M. McKoy, 26, was charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, welfare fraud, and grand larceny after receiving SNAP benefits when he was not entitled to legally be a recipient.
Deputies say he submitted two SNAP applications in December 2017 and failed to report his employment. As result, McKoy received more than $2,165 worth of benefits.
He was issued appearance tickets and will answer the charges at a later date.
