Some enter retirement with nary a clue of what’s ahead.
Doris Myers doesn’t plan to be one of them. She has a long itinerary.
Myers, who has turned the Geneva city clerk duties over to Lori Guinan, whom she succeeded six years ago. She plans, along with her husband Red, to collect a lot of frequent-flyer points and maybe a few extra miles on the car in 2019 and beyond.
“We’re travelers,” Myers said of herself and her husband, a long-time New York State Electric & Gas employee who also is retiring. “We travel any chance we get.”
For Myers, it marks the end of 34 years of public-sector work that included many years with the Geneva City School District, where she served as an administrative assistant to the superintendent and before that district clerk. She held state jobs before joining the district.
Myers came to the city clerk’s job in 2012 when Guinan decided to step down to become deputy clerk, which allowed her more family time.
Guinan has returned to the job she once held, and Myers couldn’t be happier with the transition, which she described as “seamless.”
The deputy clerk duties have been taken over by Erica Collins, who has been a member the City Hall staff while also overseeing the Geneva Enterprise Development Center.
