The national average price for regular gasoline was $4.33 a gallon Thursday, down only a couple of cents from the previous week, according to AAA's fuel-price update.
AAA said the average has remained above $4 since late July and is more than $1 higher than at the same time last year.
Crude oil was again nearing $100 a barrel, the organization said. It attributed this fall's unusually high gasoline prices to volatility in the oil market, a season when pump prices typically decline.
The national average price for electricity at a public electric-vehicle charging station held at 41 cents per kilowatt-hour over the past week, AAA said.
