The Big Red dropped to 4-5-2 overall and 1-2 in Ivy League play, while Columbia improved to 3-6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference competition. Both teams entered the matchup tied with two other programs for third place in the Ivy League standings.

Cornell created several promising opportunities in the first half, outshooting Columbia 6-4 and recording five shots on goal to the Lions’ one. However, goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney stopped every attempt, including early chances from Ella Koschineg and Emily Gibbons. Cornell goalkeeper Sofia Kerrigan made one save before halftime.

The Big Red nearly took the lead three minutes into the second half when Brooke Brown set up Gibbons near the penalty spot. Mahoney made a diving stop, tipping Gibbons’ shot onto the crossbar before a defender cleared the ball.
