A Farmington man was arrested Thursday on a second-degree assault charge after deputies said he repeatedly punched another incarcerated person at the Ontario County Jail.
Ryan Merced-Gomez struck the person several times on the left side of the face with a closed fist, causing physical injury, according to a release from the Ontario County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office identified Merced-Gomez as the primary aggressor.
The release lists Saturday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. as the time of the altercation. Both people were already held at the jail on unrelated charges, deputies said.
Merced-Gomez is expected to appear in centralized arraignment court to answer the new charge. The release did not give a court date.
