Sports medicine surgeon joins Geneva orthopaedic practice

Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery has added sports medicine surgeon Lauren Alvermann to its Geneva practice, expanding its care for shoulder and knee conditions in the Finger Lakes, the health system announced Monday.

Alvermann treats sports-related and traumatic injuries as well as degenerative shoulder and knee conditions, according to University of Rochester Medicine Finger Lakes Health. The practice said she works with athletes and other active patients of different ages.

Her training includes arthroscopic, minimally invasive and joint-preserving procedures. She also performs anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacements, the health system said.

Alvermann earned her medical degree at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU Langone Health. She then completed a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan.

During that fellowship, she provided team-physician coverage for University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University athletics. She earned her bachelor's degree in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Michigan.

Alvermann is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. The release did not specify a start date or how many patients the practice expects to serve.

Appointments are available through Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery at 789 Pre-Emption Road in Geneva. Patients can call 315-789-0993 to schedule, according to the health system.
