Eight people were hospitalized, including one person in critical condition, following a four-vehicle crash Tuesday night on the New York State Thruway in Ontario County.
Michael Weiss, 30, of Lakewood, New Jersey, was traveling west on Interstate 90 in Farmington when his car struck a van, according to New York State Police.
Police said the initial collision caused a chain-reaction crash involving a sedan and a pickup truck.
Three people who were traveling in the van were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. One was listed in critical condition, according to police.
Weiss and four passengers in his vehicle were also taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Police reported no injuries among people in the other two vehicles.
Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.
Weiss was issued several tickets for vehicle and traffic law violations. Police did not specify the individual violations in the information released.
The crash remains under investigation.
