Buffalo Bills edge rusher Greg Rousseau has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September after producing one of the strongest starts to a season in franchise history.
Rousseau has recorded six sacks, three forced fumbles, 15 tackles, eight tackles for loss and one pass defensed through Buffalo’s first three games of the 2026 season.
His six sacks lead the NFL and represent the most by a Bills player through the first three games of a season.
The fourth-year player recorded two sacks in each of Buffalo’s first three games, making him only the third player in NFL history to open a season with at least two sacks in three consecutive games. He joins Mark Gastineau, who accomplished the feat in 1984, and Kevin Greene, who did so in 1998.
Rousseau’s three-game stretch also puts him in rare company within Bills history. He is one of only three players in franchise history to record at least two sacks in three consecutive games, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Bruce Smith, who did it in 1990, and Bryce Paup, who accomplished the feat in 1995.
Rousseau’s production has helped fuel a fast start for Buffalo, which has opened the season 3-0 with wins over the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers.
