Auburn man charged after remote thrown near one-year-old

An Auburn man was charged after deputies said he broke a laptop and threw a television remote during a domestic incident, narrowly missing a 1-year-old child.

Jayden Sylvester, 20, was arrested Monday night on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said in an Oct. 1 release.

Deputies were called to an Auburn residence at about 8:50 p.m. Monday to investigate the reported domestic incident. They said Sylvester destroyed a laptop that did not belong to him and threw a remote against a wall, breaking it and nearly striking the child.

Sylvester was arrested at about 10 p.m. and taken to the Public Safety Building for processing before centralized arraignment at the Cayuga County Jail. An order of protection was issued, and he was released on his own recognizance.

The release said Sylvester was scheduled to appear in Auburn City Court at 9:15 a.m. Thursday; it did not report the outcome of that appearance.
