More New York children are completing routine vaccinations than a decade ago, but a growing share are finishing later than recommended, according to the Times Union.
A New York Health Foundation study found completion of a seven-vaccine series rose 14% by age 2 and 22% by age 5 between 2013 and 2023.
The gap between those completion rates widened from about 11 percentage points to about 17 percentage points over the same period.
About six in 10 New York children completed the series by age 2 in 2023, with county rates ranging from 32% in Rockland to 78% in Warren.
Health experts cited pandemic disruptions, access barriers and vaccine misinformation among reasons for delays, while school requirements helped some children catch up by age 5.
