A Port Byron man was charged with failing to report an internet identifier after a Cayuga County sheriff's investigation into his communications with a 17-year-old girl.
The Sheriff's Office identified him as Elwood Raymond, 46, and said deputies arrested him Friday in Montezuma on a first-offense violation of New York's sex offender reporting law, a Class E felony.
Deputies began investigating in March after receiving an allegation that Raymond, a registered Level 3 sex offender, had communicated with the girl through Facebook Messenger, according to the arrest release.
Investigators said Raymond used an internet identifier for those messages but did not report it within 10 days as required.
Raymond appeared in centralized arraignment court after his arrest and was being held in the Cayuga County Jail without bail, the sheriff's office said.
