A man faces felony and misdemeanor charges after Penn Yan police said he assaulted a woman during an August domestic incident in front of their two children.
Police said Alexander M. Bates grabbed the woman by the neck and repeatedly pushed her head into a door frame. He is also accused of taking her phone, preventing her from contacting emergency services.
Bates was arrested Sept. 25 and charged with aggravated family offense, third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was processed at the Penn Yan Police Department and taken to the Yates County Jail to await arraignment, police said.
