Nearly half of New York households are struggling to afford the basics — even though many of the people in those households are working.
They’re part of a population known as ALICE. Asset limited, income constrained, employed. They earn more than the federal poverty level but still don’t make enough to cover housing, food, child care, transportation, health care and other necessities.
