The George M. Ewing Canandaigua Forum will bring a neurologist and a physician living with Parkinson's disease to Canandaigua on Oct. 11 for a discussion of research, care and patients' experiences.
“Facing Parkinson’s: New Science, New Strategies, Real Lives” begins at 4 p.m. at the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center, according to the forum's event listing. Tickets are available through the listing, and organizers say seating is limited.
Neurologist Ray Dorsey and physician Sara Whittingham will discuss research into Parkinson's causes and prevention, approaches to treatment and care, and the role of patients in shaping research and policy, the forum said. Maggie Kuhl, head of patient engagement at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, will moderate.
Dorsey is a professor of neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and co-author of “Ending Parkinson's Disease” and “The Parkinson's Plan.” His work includes research on factors associated with the disease and ways to improve access to neurological health care.
Whittingham is an Air Force veteran, a physician living with Parkinson's disease and a clinical faculty member at Northeast Ohio Medical University. She serves on a federal advisory council on Parkinson's research, care and services and wrote “Oh Crap! It's Parkinson's: A Rebel's Guide.”
The forum said it is partnering with regional Parkinson's organizations for the program. The Fort Hill Performing Arts Center is in downtown Canandaigua; attendees can find ticket and accessibility information on the forum's event page.
