A Corning man faces a felony stolen-property charge after Steuben County sheriff's investigators accused him of using another person's public-benefits card without permission.
Deputies and investigators arrested Clark Fenchel, 43, of Brick Street, on Sept. 16, according to a Sept. 28 release from Sheriff Jim Allard.
The sheriff's office alleges Fenchel used a card issued by the Steuben County Department of Social Services on June 19 to obtain benefits he was not entitled or authorized to receive.
He was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony, as well as misuse of food stamps and petit larceny, the release said.
Fenchel was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail without bail, according to the sheriff's office. The county Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the district attorney's office assisted in the investigation.
