Drivers on State Route 14 between Millport and Veteran should expect single-lane traffic and milled road surfaces during a paving project scheduled to continue into October.
The work affects Route 14 from Croton Road in the hamlet of Millport to Hickory Grove Road in the town of Veteran, Chemung County, according to a state Department of Transportation advisory.
Flaggers will control alternating traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The announced work period began Tuesday, Sept. 22.
DOT anticipates completion by Friday, Oct. 16, weather permitting. That is an expected finish date, not a guarantee that weather will allow the project to remain on schedule.
The department advises motorists to expect milled surfaces and consider alternate routes where possible.
Drivers should slow down in work zones, where speeding fines are doubled. Two or more work-zone speeding convictions can result in a driver’s license suspension.
