A forklift fire at New Energy Works in Farmington caused smoke and sprinkler water damage Saturday night, but no one was injured, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 9:38 p.m. to the business at 1180 Commercial Drive in the town of Farmington for a burglar and water alarm, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies searched the exterior of the building before discovering a fire inside.
Fire crews arrived shortly afterward and quickly extinguished the fire.
The sheriff's office said a faulty electrical system in a propane-operated forklift caused the fire, which remained contained to the forklift and did not spread.
Areas of the building sustained water damage from the sprinkler system, and heavy smoke spread throughout the building.
No one was inside when the fire began, and Ontario County fire investigators found no suspicious conditions surrounding it.
The sheriff's office listed Eric Fraser, 44, of Farmington, as the business representative in its release.
Farmington, Canandaigua and Victor fire departments and the Ontario County Fire Coordinators Office assisted the sheriff's office with the response and investigation.
