Ontario County residents can learn about current scams, identity theft and ways to protect themselves during a community presentation next week in Canandaigua.
The Ontario County S.A.L.T. Council will host “Scams & ID Theft: What You Need to Know” at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Town of Canandaigua Building, 5440 Routes 5 & 20.
Michaela Leach, a specialist with the Ontario County Office for the Aging, and Ontario County Sheriff’s Sgt. Missy Peck will lead the presentation.
The program will cover current scam and identity theft trends, strategies residents can use to protect themselves and steps people can take if they become victims of financial abuse.
The S.A.L.T. Council — Seniors and Lawmen Together — includes local older adults and representatives from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Office for the Aging, Quail Summit and Alzheimer’s Association. The group works to educate residents about health and safety issues affecting older adults.
