Josh Allen has added another weekly honor to his long résumé.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday after leading Buffalo to a 41-31 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 2, the first regular-season game at the new Highmark Stadium.
Allen completed 20-of-31 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns while posting a 121.4 passer rating. He also carried the ball 14 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns, accounting for five total scores in the victory.
Allen’s performance included a strong start to the night. He accounted for 62 of Buffalo’s 85 yards on its opening possession before scoring on a one-yard rushing touchdown. He later connected with Joshua Palmer for a 43-yard touchdown and found Dawson Knox for a one-yard score before halftime. Allen added another rushing touchdown in the second half, finishing a 15-play, 75-yard drive that lasted more than eight minutes.
The award marks the 19th AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor of Allen’s career, which ranks fourth in NFL history. Only Tom Brady with 32, Peyton Manning with 27 and Drew Brees with 25 have received the award more times.
Allen also became the first player in NFL history to record at least five passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns through his team’s first two games of a season.
His latest honor comes after he recorded four total touchdowns in Buffalo’s Week 1 victory over the Houston Texans.
The Bills return home Sunday to face the Los Angeles Chargers at 1 p.m.
