William Smith volleyball split its final two matches at the New England Classic on Saturday, sweeping Smith before falling to No. 22 Babson in three sets. The Herons finished the weekend with a 7-2 record after putting together another strong showing against a pair of challenging opponents.
Bills overcome sloppy five-turnover game, defeat Chargers to start season 3-0 (full coverage) Cassidy Breuer led William Smith across the two matches, totaling 16 kills, 21 digs and two blocks. Emily Fulton also delivered a strong day with 12 kills, 21 digs and two service aces.
Against Smith, the Herons controlled the opening set from the start, using 17 kills and seven hitting errors from the Bears to secure a 25-18 victory. William Smith followed with a 25-20 win in the second set before completing the sweep with a 25-17 third-set victory.
Breuer finished the match with 11 kills, while Senya Dorny added seven kills on an efficient .545 hitting percentage. Arielle Newsome and Maren Hunt each contributed six kills. Jayden Hanson recorded 20 assists, five blocks, four digs, four aces and two kills, while Delainy Williams added 12 assists, four digs and two aces. The Herons finished with 38 digs, nine aces and eight blocks.
Babson presented a tougher challenge in the second match, taking the opening set 25-19. William Smith battled throughout the second set but Babson pulled away for a 25-20 victory before closing out the match 25-18 in the third.
Fulton paced William Smith with seven kills against Babson, while Breuer added five. Breuer also recorded a team-high 15 digs, with Fulton adding 12 and Kali Vanderhoof contributing 11.
Hanson finished the second match with 10 assists, five digs, two kills and one block, while Williams recorded seven assists and six digs.

William Smith returns home Friday, September 25, to open conference play against Union at 7 p.m. in Bristol Gym. The Herons will then host Vassar Saturday, September 26, at 2 p.m.
