Drivers across Wayne County should prepare for heavier traffic this weekend as the Purple Painted Lady Festival and a national motorcycle trail ride bring additional vehicles to area roads, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.
Festival traffic approaching from the west on Route 31 should turn south onto Alderman Road and follow posted detour signs. Drivers shouldn’t follow GPS directions to Yellow Mills Road from that direction. Visitors arriving from the east should use Yellow Mills Road, while those approaching from the south should follow GPS directions to the alternate parking entrance. Northbound visitors should choose their route based on whether they are traveling southeast or southwest.
The Wayne County Motorcycle Club is also hosting its National Dual Sport Series Trail Ride. Motorists should expect to encounter motorcycles and dirt bikes on and near Route 88 throughout the weekend.
The sheriff’s office urged drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time and remain alert at intersections. Motorists should give motorcycles additional following distance and check twice before turning or changing lanes.
Drivers should also avoid distractions and follow posted signs and directions from traffic personnel. Officials asked motorists to remain patient and courteous as residents, riders and festival visitors share local roads.
