No. 1 Finger Lakes Community College men’s soccer overcame an early deficit Wednesday night, rallying past Cayuga Community College for a 2-1 victory that kept the Lakers unbeaten.
Cayuga struck first, but Finger Lakes continued to generate pressure and eventually found its equalizer from the penalty spot. Riley Cooper converted the opportunity to bring the match even at 1-1.
With the game approaching its final 10 minutes, Finger Lakes continued searching for a go-ahead goal. Cooper came through again, scoring his second goal of the night to put the Lakers ahead 2-1.
Finger Lakes’ defense then held Cayuga without another goal during the closing minutes, securing the comeback and preserving the Lakers’ undefeated record.
Cooper finished with two goals on two shots, putting both attempts on target. Noah Gouveia Pflüger recorded an assist, while Matheus Dantas, Sean Welch and Philip Neuenschwander each finished with two shots.

The Lakers now turn their attention to another major test Saturday, September 19, when they travel to Herkimer College for a matchup against No. 5 Herkimer. Both teams enter the contest undefeated, setting up a top-five showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
