U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and six Democratic colleagues said they remain committed to passing federal cryptocurrency legislation after negotiations suffered what they called a setback this week.
The senators said they want a bipartisan bill that establishes regulatory certainty, protects consumers, punishes misconduct and includes ethics rules for elected officials.
The statement concerned the CLARITY Act, a proposal intended to establish a federal framework for digital-asset markets.
Gillibrand was joined by Sens. Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Ruben Gallego of Arizona, Mark Warner of Virginia and Raphael Warnock of Georgia.
The senators did not describe the specific setback or provide a timetable for renewed action. They said the week's development would not end their effort to reach a bipartisan agreement.
