The New York Working Families Party endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's reelection campaign Wednesday, giving the Democratic governor another ballot line in her race against Republican Bruce Blakeman.
The party said Hochul and Democratic lieutenant governor nominee Adrienne Adams support priorities that include universal child care, affordable housing, health care access and protections for immigrants.
New York's fusion-voting system allows a candidate to appear on more than one party line, with votes from those lines combined in the statewide total. The party said it will urge voters to support Hochul and Adams on the Working Families line.
The endorsement also extends to state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Attorney General Letitia James, according to Working Families Party Director Jasmine Gripper.
Hochul said the party is joining what she described as a broad coalition focused on affordability, safety and families. She also criticized President Donald Trump, federal immigration enforcement and Blakeman, framing the campaign as a contest over costs and New Yorkers' rights.
Adams said the campaign would focus on affordable housing, wages and community safety. She said working families should have a voice in decisions that affect their lives.
Gripper said the party wants the state's leaders to pursue wider access to housing, health care and child care while resisting corporate influence and special interests. The release did not describe any policy agreement or conditions attached to the endorsement.
The announcement came from Hochul's campaign and included no comment from Blakeman or other candidates.
