The Syracuse men’s soccer team broke open a scoreless match with three second-half goals Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 road victory over Colgate at Beyer-Small ’76 Field.
Syracuse improved to 5-3-0 on the season with the win, controlling the match from start to finish and limiting Colgate’s opportunities. The Orange finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots and put nine attempts on target compared with four for the Raiders.
After neither team found the net during the opening 45 minutes, Syracuse quickly changed the game after halftime. Chimere Omeze put the Orange ahead just two minutes into the second half, scoring his first goal of the season. Ivan Irinimbabazi and Gabriel Oksanen assisted on the play.
Dakota Jonke extended Syracuse’s advantage later in the half, scoring his second goal of the season on an unassisted finish. The Orange continued to pressure Colgate and eventually added a third goal in the closing moments.
Kelvin Da Costa found the net in the 90th minute for his first goal of the season, putting the finishing touch on Syracuse’s three-goal second-half performance.
Juan Martinez-Bastidas protected the lead throughout the match, making four saves while completing the shutout over 90 minutes. Syracuse’s defense also limited Colgate to four shots on goal.
Syracuse will return to JMA Wireless Dome on Friday, September 19, when it hosts Le Moyne at 7 p.m.
