A Sodus man was hospitalized after his pickup truck and trailer left a road in Lyons and struck a tree Saturday afternoon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the vehicle traveled about 200 feet off Arcadia Zurich Norris Road, crossed rocks and hit the tree. The driver and sole occupant, Robert Shields, was unconscious when responders reached him, and CPR was performed at the scene.
Shields was taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. The sheriff's office said he was expected to be transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital for further treatment; it did not provide a later condition.
Deputies said a medical emergency appeared to have caused the crash, but the investigation remains open. The collision was reported at 1:39 p.m. Sept. 12.
New York State Police, Wayne County EMS, Newark EMS, the Fairville Fire Department and LifeNet assisted at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
