The New York State Building & Construction Trades Council has endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul for re-election, adding a major labor organization to her campaign's list of supporters.
The endorsement was announced September 10 by Hochul's campaign. The campaign said the council represents more than 235,000 union construction workers across the state.
Council President Gary LaBarbera said in a statement that Hochul has supported policies intended to expand construction jobs, housing development and energy projects. He said the organization expects to continue working with her if she wins another term.
Hochul thanked the council and pointed to offshore wind work near Long Island, the Gateway Tunnel project, upstate semiconductor development and housing construction as priorities. Those project claims and the council's membership figure were presented by the campaign; the announcement did not include an independent assessment of their progress.
The endorsement is a campaign development rather than an announcement of a new state program. The release did not specify a vote tally or describe the council's endorsement process.
