A 61-year-old Bath man was arrested after New York State Police said he became disorderly while being discharged from Guthrie Corning Hospital, attempted to strike a nurse and later hit a security officer with a plastic wet-floor sign holder.
Curtis M. Kent was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, a Class D felony; second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief, all Class A misdemeanors.
According to State Police at Painted Post, Kent allegedly became disorderly during the discharge process and attempted to strike a nurse multiple times.
While waiting for transportation in the hospital lobby, police said Kent picked up a side table and threw it into a vending machine, damaging the table.
When hospital security personnel intervened, Kent allegedly removed a plastic wet-floor sign holder from the wall, held it in a threatening manner and threatened the security officers.
State Police said Kent then struck one of the officers in the abdomen with the sign holder.
Hospital security personnel restrained Kent until troopers arrived and took him into custody.
Kent was processed at State Police Painted Post and transported to the Steuben County Jail.
