Syracuse women’s soccer was unable to overcome an early deficit Sunday night, falling 2-0 to undefeated Boston College on the road. The Orange dropped to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, while the Eagles remained perfect at 8-0-0 and moved to 1-0-0 in conference action.
Boston College opened the scoring just 7:57 into the match following a scramble inside the Syracuse penalty area. Maya Naimoli initially denied Ashley Roberts, but the loose ball fell to Georgina Clarke, who converted the rebound for her second goal of the season.
Syracuse created several opportunities to answer before halftime. Jasmine Nixon forced Boston College goalkeeper Olivia Shippee into a save after collecting a corner kick, while Ali Howard narrowly missed the far post with a shot shortly before the break.
The Eagles added to their advantage less than 13 minutes into the second half. Sophie Reale carried the ball forward during a transition opportunity before cutting to her left and sending a left-footed shot into the net at 57:54.
Syracuse continued to search for a way back into the match. Abby Incorvaia created space for a left-footed attempt in the 64th minute, but her shot went wide. The Orange’s best late opportunity came with just over four minutes remaining, when Bree Bridges had an attempt stopped by Shippee after Syracuse generated a pair of headers off Gabby Wisbeck’s corner kick.
Boston College finished with a 14-6 advantage in shots and held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Syracuse earned five corner kicks compared with four for the Eagles.
The loss extended Boston College’s all-time series advantage to 13-4-2 and marked Syracuse’s 10th loss without a win in 11 road meetings against the Eagles.
Syracuse returns to action Thursday, September 17, against nationally ranked Clemson. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
