The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose 13 cents in one week to $4.27, AAA reported Thursday.
AAA tied the increase to rising crude oil prices as volatility in the Strait of Hormuz pushed oil back to about $100 per barrel for the first time since July.
The latest national pump price is comparable to levels seen in early June, according to the organization.
The increase is arriving at a time of year when gasoline prices typically decline as demand falls, AAA said.
Public electric-vehicle charging costs were unchanged during the week. AAA put the national average at 42 cents per kilowatt-hour at public charging stations.
The organization said its full fuel report includes federal Energy Information Administration data along with state gasoline prices, electric charging trends and oil-market information.
