A 45-year-old Watertown man was killed early Tuesday after being struck by an SUV on State Route 126 in the town of Champion, according to New York State Police.
Troopers said the crash happened around 4:24 a.m. Sept. 8. A 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Jeramie J. Palladino, 53, of Carthage, was traveling east when it struck the pedestrian, who was also traveling east on foot.
State Police said the pedestrian was believed to have been in the roadway and wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash.
The man was pronounced dead shortly after the collision. His name was not released in the initial State Police report.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the West Carthage Fire Department, Carthage Area Rescue and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
