FLCC men’s soccer dominates Jefferson with four-goal first half

Finger Lakes Community College men’s soccer took control early and never let up Wednesday, scoring all four of its goals before halftime in a 4-0 road victory over Jefferson Community College.

The Lakers wasted no time establishing themselves offensively, finding the back of the net four times during the opening 45 minutes. Riley Cooper led the way with two goals, while Lennart Schaefer and Will Jones each added one to give Finger Lakes a commanding advantage at the break.

Finger Lakes also received contributions from several players in the buildup to its goals. Three of the Lakers’ four tallies came with assists, as Finn Atkinson, Gary Cooper and Niklas Gräbke each recorded one.

With the offense providing plenty of separation before halftime, Finger Lakes shifted its focus to protecting the lead in the second half. The Lakers’ defense kept Jefferson from finding the net and preserved the shutout to finish off the road victory.

Joshua Koobs played an important role in the defensive effort, recording his first shutout of the season in goal.

Box Score

The victory gives Finger Lakes momentum heading into a challenging home matchup Friday, September 11. The Lakers will welcome No. 1-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College to the FLCC Multi-Use Turf Facility for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
